My husband Lev and I stayed here in December of 2014. I’m writing 6 years later because I still have such great memories of this neighborhood and this apartment. It was wonderful to feel like I had a *home* in Jerusalem. I miss traveling and can’t wait to return.

I stayed at Beit Oren in January of 2006. You may wonder why I am writing this review almost 12 years later. It is because I came across this accommodation in the course of searching for lodgings for a trip to Jerusalem that my wife and I plan to take next year. To be sure, the favorable reviews that have been posted online by other Beit Oren guests are not entirely inconsistent with my own experience, except for the references to this place as being quiet. When I was there it was anything but: the residents of the house next to Beit Oren had a German Shepherd that roamed their yard and barked loudly, day and night. Fortunately, I managed after 4 or 5 days to get the neighbors’ housekeeper to limit the dog’s access to the yard. In any case, after all these years, this dog is most likely no longer with us, so you may wonder why I am even bringing up this subject. It is because, prior to booking this apartment and paying the owners, Leah and Yonatan Oren, a substantial deposit, I corresponded with them by email and by phone and made a point about my sensitivity to noise. They never mentioned the neighbor’s dog; on the contrary, they assured me that their rental apartment was quiet. When I arrived at the apartment, which was at night, I heard the barking dog and and told them that I felt I had been deceived. In response, Yonatan and Leah claimed that the barking of the dog did not bother them; but that was not the point. I told them that I wanted to try to find lodgings elsewhere, even though doing so would have been difficult, and I asked them to please return my deposit. They refused to do so, stating that I would have to forfeit the deposit if I did not stay. I stayed, and later we reconciled; however, I cannot entirely forgive them for having misinformed me, and thereafter for having refused to comply with my request for the return of my deposit. Perhaps they learned from this experience and are now conscientious about such matters.
