Docaviv, internationally recognized and appreciated, is the only Israeli festival dedicated solely to documentary films – an art form which has been growing rapidly in the past years. Docaviv hosts filmmakers and prestigious visitors from abroad, offers an extensive program, opening windows to other cultures, traditions and conflicts, encourages dialog and constitutes an authentic mosaic of all shades of Israeli society. Docaviv draws a wide audience; from school children, through students, adults with an appreciation for cinema and culture, to members of the film and television industry. The festival includes four separate competitions; the Israeli competition, the international competition, student film competition and a youth competition for high school students majoring in film studies. The jury consists of film festival directors and programmers as well as film maker invited by Docaviv. Every year Docaviv draws an audience of over 35,000 people and serves as a showcase of the best documentary films made in Israel for festivals around the world. Docaviv is an NPO founded in 1998. Its activities are supported by the 'Council of Cinema', Tel Aviv municipality, embassies and private sponsors.
